What are Some of the Most Common Dental Procedures
You should go to a dentist every six months for check-ups and cleanings. If you are very lucky, those are the only dental procedure you’ll ever need a dentist to do. However, if your teeth are in trouble, you’ll know what your dentist can do for you.
The most common dental procedure is the oral exam. There are three main kinds. The first kind is a comprehensive exam for a new patient. The next kind is a recall exam or check-up. This will be the exam you are most used to. Cleaning is done at this time. The third kind of exam is called a limited exam. This is done when you have a specific problem, such as an abscessed tooth.
Another common dental procedure is taking X-rays. This is often done as part of an exam. These can look at the whole mouth or at specific problems.
Dentists also perform restorative procedures to help fix natural teeth, like fillings, inlays, and onlays. They can also install prosthetics like dentures, partial dentures, bridges, crowns, and veneers. Dentists also perform implant surgery for one or two teeth. More complex implants need to be performed by an oral surgeon.
Other dental procedures include root canals, fitting patients with mouth guards, and extracting teeth that cannot be saved.
